SIMPLE TIPS TO LOSE EXCESS WEIGHT
STRESS: Some people eat to overcome sadness, stress or when they are thinking about how to overcome some complex situations in life. Try meditation, yoga and avoid eating to relax yourself.
Do not just think about how to lose weight or just read about it but start performing physical exercises.
Plan your meals. Eat low calorie food.
Do not make drastic change in your diet. Make a list of the food you like. Choose from that list which is of low calorie.
Do not eat food especially while watching T.V or chatting with your friends or when you are discussing something serious. You will not know how much you have consumed. Eat smaller portions.
Avoid junk food, avoid sugar in large quantity. Avoid artificial fruit juices, jam , butter, ghee, oily food, samosa, wada, potatoes, cheese, burgers, French fries, cakes, biscuits, pastries, ice creams, cold drinks, non veg food.
Avoid eating outside as it contains lot of oil which is reheated.
Avoid cheese toppings and cheese in sandwiches.
Eat sweets occasionally such as pedhas or barfi.
Keep yourself busy. Do not eat just because you have nothing else to do.
Once you have attained a healthy, desirable weight, you should be able to maintain it. To achieve this, make a plan, which you will be able to follow for the rest of your life.
Have a balanced diet. Try to be vegetarian. There are many advantages of a vegetarian diet. Vegetarian diet helps you to avoid heart problems and many other diseases. It provides healthy servings of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. As a result not only your body but also mentally you will feel fresh and relaxed.
Things which you can eat when you are hungry
Fresh fruits : Fruits contain natural sugar which makes you feel energetic and fresh. Buy a variety of fruits which you like. Buy fruits which are easy to cut or which you can have easily. For e.g. Chikoos, grapes, oranges etc.
Avoid large amount of citrus fruits if you have cold.
You can have fruit juice prepared at home but with less sugar.
Salads : You can have cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots or sandwiches made of brown bread with large amount of salads in it.
Whenever you go to a restaurant order vegetable soup without cream as it will reduce your craving for other foods.
If possible include vegetable soup daily in your meals.
Lemon juice, water with a pinch of salt will also reduce your cravings and make you feel fresh.
Oats if you have at breakfast help a lot in weight management.
Include pulses in your diet which are rich in proteins.
Leafy vegetables, salads should occupy ¾ th part of your lunch or dinner plate.
Do’s and Don’ts
Don’t think about obesity. Thinking too much will lead to anxiety and stress and you will start overeating.
Do not eat while watching T.V. or when you are discussing something serious. You will not know how much you are eating.
Do not keep your stomach empty. Eat small feeds.
Do take time to relax your mind which is very, very important. Do meditation, yoga. You can relax your mind by doing things which make you happy. Think of some hobby which you had. For e.g. Playing some musical instrument or simply listening to good music. That will relax your mind and fill it with positive thoughts.
Praying to God regularly will help you in all aspects.
Exercise daily or at least thrice a week. Any form of exercise such as brisk walking for half an hour, jogging in case of youngsters, Yoga which will help you to relax mentally also. But do the exercises regularly.
Keep a diary to know how many days you have followed these tips i.e. note down whenever you have junk food or whenever you did not exercise, this will help you to know your short comings.
